Charles Herman Samuel
Charles, 90, of Sussex went to be with the Lord on
Monday, September 17th, 2012.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel, of 38 years. Surviving children: Shirley (William) Schultz, Charles O. (Beth) Samuel, Tim Samuel; 5 grandchildren: Fred, Michael, Erika Samuel, Scott and Stephen Schultz; 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife's children: Nadine (Lee) Rowland, Carla Eauslin, and Phillip Vetta. He was preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Krauss.
Sam, as he is known, put Oak Creek, WI on the map in the 60's and 70's with Country Western music at Sam's Castle Inn, on 27th street. He also had Happy Hollow, and Samuel Floor Service for 50 years.
Sam was a POW in WWII for 18 months, and escaped into British lines. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct medal and Expert Combat Rifleman.
He was a "Winter Texan" after his retirement in 1994, for 19 years living in Pharr, TX. He belonged to the Elks, McAllen TX., the Sussex Lions, Milwaukee Moose #49 and POW Barbwire Wisconsin Club.
Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 27th, 2012, with services beginning at 1:00 PM followed with visitation until 3:00 PM, at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1875 N. CALHOUN RD, BROOKFIELD. Private inurnment at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
