Pastor J. Wesley Corbin,
Pastor Corbin passed away surrounded by his family on August 27, 2008, at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband of Claudette Corbin (nee Fowle). Deeply loved father of Laurie Corbin (Ken Muzzy) and Linda Corbin-Pardee (Don Pardee), and father of Bobbi Lynn (Mike) Meyer and Kym Dueysen. Loving grandfather of Kellylyn (Scott) Mackiewicz and Nic Sukup, Matthew and Karleigh Meyer, Hannah and Aaron Pardee, and Olga Liapis-Muzzy. Beloved by many other relatives and friends.
Wes was one of three children born to John Wesley and Pauline Corbin. He is survived by two sisters. He moved from Pasadena, CA to Madison, WI in 1957 with his former wife Virginia Corbin, where he attended graduate school in the history department at the University of Wisconsin. He had received a bachelor's degree from Pasadena College, now Point Loma Nazarene University. After graduate studies, he became a social worker in Sheboygan, WI where he was led to become a minister. He attended Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, IL and was ordained as a minister in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, now the United Methodist Church.
Wes was the minister at Wisconsin E.U.B. / United Methodist churches in Boaz, Arlington, Wauwatosa, Greenfield, Waukesha, and Oconomowoc. From 1986-1992, he co-hosted an interfaith radio program, Homeward Bound, on WTMJ radio. He was a man of encyclopedic memory, a historian of world and church history, an esteemed bible study teacher, an accomplished singer and cook. His love of language made him an inspiring speaker and incorrigible punster.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 4:00 PM, at MEMORIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3450 S 52nd St., Greenfield. Visitation from 1:00-4:00 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Memorial United Methodist Church music program or Oak Creek United Methodist Church building fund would be appreciated.
